Understanding Screen Resolution

Screen resolution is the number of physical pixels available on your display. For example, a resolution of 1920 by 1080 means the screen has 1,920 pixels horizontally and 1,080 pixels vertically.

Viewport size represents the available browser window area used to display web content. It can be different from your physical screen resolution because of browser controls, window size and other interface elements.

Device Pixel Ratio (DPR) indicates the relationship between CSS pixels and physical screen pixels. High-density displays can have a DPR greater than 1.

This information is useful for:

  • Testing responsive website layouts.
  • Checking display and monitor configurations.
  • Understanding high-density displays.
  • Troubleshooting browser rendering issues.
  • Testing responsive web applications.
  • Understanding how websites see your display environment.
